Algeria-Ethiopia2

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Walia Ibex of Ethiopia couldn’t avenge their 7-1 pummeling at the hands of the Fennecs of Algeria on Friday as they were held to a 3-3 tie here here today in Group J match of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Walias started in dramatic fashion, attacking the Fennecs’ defense from the get go resulting in 3 corner kicks in the first 4 minutes of the match.

The effort of the Ethiopian players bear fruit 28 minutes into the first half where once again Getaneh Kebede was the scorer. Two minutes later Ramkel Lok scored Ethiopia’s second goal but it was ruled offside.

However, the lead didn’t last long as soon after he was yellow carded for elbowing Alula Girma, danger man Islam Slimani scored Algeria’s equalizer from a diving header. Once again, the Walias defense was caught napping.

Coach Yohannes Sahle made a change in the second half, replacing Behailu Assefa with Dawit Fekadu and 3 minutes later Getaneh gave the Walias the lead with his second goal of the match.

Aissa Mandi (61′) equalized for Algeria and Ethiopia once again took the lead with a goal from Dawit Fekadu (64′). However, the joy was short lived as Algeria’s pressing finally resulted in an equalizer from a penalty kick converted by Faouzi Ghoulam (85′).

The Walias defense line needs a lot of work as it has conceded 10 goals in 2 games against Algeria.

Meanwhile, in the second Group J match, Lesotho defeated the Seychelles Islands 2-1.  So, after 4 matches played, Algeria is in the driver seat with 10 points followed by the Walias (5 pts), Seychelles (4) and Lesotho (3).

Final Result: Ethiopia 3-3 Algeria

Ethiopia goal scorers: Getaneh Kebede (28′ & 48′) and Dawit Fekadu (63′)

Algeria: Islam Slimani (42′), Aissa Mandi (61′) and Faouzi Ghoulam (85′)

  1. I dont like that algerian team which according to me is a french team. however Ethiopia should be ashamed of her stadium, I bet even Real Mardid would have lost to walias yesterday. Stop this african mentality, use bad conditions to win points, that s why we are behind the rest of the world

  2. to the asshole who said “Fuck Algerians” I hope you are not Ethiopian because Algeria helped your country a lot and on many occasions.

  4. the sorry ass Ethiopians are so jealous of the mighty Algerians lol .
the referee favor the Ethiopians for not calling an obvious penalty on Ethiopia the score should have been Algeria 3 Ethiopia 2 but nothing new ,African referees most of them are idiots .

  5. There is something wrong, a country like Ethopia with a population of 100 millions doesn’t have a respectable stadium. I feel very sorry for those european players that compose the Algerian team, stumbling the whole game and struggling with the ground before their opponents. The Ethiopian federation should do something. take a look at the newspapers all over the world, ‘a draw in a catstrophic stadium’

  6. what a shame for ethiopia a country who think is a big country in east africa , what’s this grass and stadium ? you cant’s do 3 pass correctly , no one can play football on it , even for rugby it would be difficult , or maybe it’s a cheating stratey for walias to get some little result against football teams by playing in this horrible grass and wholes . i feel sorry for the algerian players , they can’t show us their beautiful football in this crapy stadium
