AFCON appearance inspires us to do our best – St. George captain Degu Debebe

Degu DebebeSt George defender Degu Debebe captains both club and country and going into this weekend’s Orange CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round return leg against Jamhuri of Zanzibar , he is confident of progressing through. Degu was speaking to Cafonline.com ahead Sunday’s encounter.
Cafonline.com: You scored three goals without main  striker Adane Girma that is great isn’t it ?
Degu Debebe: It is true that Adane Girma was not in the line up but Fitsum Gebre-Mariam, Oumed Okuri and the Nigerian Joseph scored three goals for us. St. George coach Michael has a full-strength squad to choose from with Adane back l am sure we can get more goals if he plays but we also showed that we  didn’t have problem in the absence of Adane Girma.

Cafonline.com: Is there a pressure on you in the return match?

Degu Debebe: There will not be pressure on our side. Why would there be? Our fans want good result. We were successful in beating our opponents in the away match. We are preparing our level best to win again against Jamhuri in the second leg. I think all the pressure is on them not to concede more goals than the first meeting.
Cafonline.com: Some people are saying that there will be an upset because you are overconfident.
Degu Debebe: We are confident to win, that is true but are not  underestimating our opponents.

Cafonline.com: Do you think participating in the Africa Cup of Nations inspire you in the club competition?
Degu Debebe: I think so. The other Ethiopian club Dedebit won 4-0 over the Central African side. These are good results for both clubs. Most of the national team players were selected from my club and Dedebit. Yes l think we have been inspired by this to do well in club competitions.

Cafonline.com: How do you see the next opponents should you win- from Mali.
Degu Debebe: That will be a tough encounter. We have the information that they performance well last time round in CAF Confederation Cup.
