Work on new 60,000-seat National Stadium to commence in 2014

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn told members of the parliament (MPs) that work on the new 60,000-seat National Stadium around Gerji area here in the capital will commence in 2014.

Mr. Desalegn told the MPs that four other stadiums are currently being built in Bahir Dar, Mekelle, Hawassa and Lekemte.

The new stadium will help the country host international sporting events and plans are underway to build a number of 5-star hotels to accommodate guests.

Meanwhile, the Addis Ababa Sports Commission has announced that it approved a 100-million birr budget to build 5 other stadiums in various parts of the capital.

The stadiums will built in Gulele, Bole, Nefas Silk, Lafto & Yeka district areas and the work will take about 3 years to complete.
