Sheikh Mohammed Al-Amoudi Stadium to be Inaugurated on January 14

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Ali Al-Amoudi Stadium, which is located in Woldia, Wollo, will be inaugurated on January 14, 2017.

The stadium was built at a cost of 500 million Ethiopian Birr (more than $22 million US dollars) and took 4.5 years to complete.

The Ethiopian-born Saudi business tycoon Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Ali Al-Amoudi, who was born in Woldia, financed the bill.

Stadium’s Amenities:

  • Capacity: 25,155 seats
  • Ground tennis court, basketball court, Olympic size swimming pool, volleyball field, hand ball field and guest house.
  • Meets the requirements of both FIFA and IAAF to hold international sporting events
  • It also has 4 dressing rooms, 156 floodlights, 8 sound proof press rooms, VIP seats, state of the art drainage system, parking lot, internet and telephone services and 36 water tankers.

Although the stadium is set to be inaugurated on January 14, the first competitive game will be staged on January 15 as Woldia takes on Dire Dawa Ketema on Week 11 of the Ethiopian Premier League fixture.
