Second phase construction of Adey Abeba Stadium to commence soon

Addis Ababa, January 1, 2020  –Second phase construction of Ethiopia’s national stadium (Adey Abeba stadium) will commence soon, said Sport Commission.

The Commission recently announced the completion of the first phase of the 62,000-seater stadium.

The country spent more than 2.47 billion birr for the first phase built by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC).

Elias Shikure, Commissioner of the Ethiopian Sport Commission, said the second phase construction, which is expected to consume more funds than the first phase, will begin soon.

Laying pitch grass, installing roof and seats of the stadium, as well as building running tracks are among the major works in the second phase, the commissioner noted.
