Addis Ababa- Ethiopia will get its first international standard stadium in two years time.

This was disclosed here yesterday while the Federal Sports Commission and MH-Engineering Pvt. Ltd. Co signed a design, construction supervision and contract administration agreement.

Speaking at the event, Commissioner Abdisa Yadeta said up on completion, the stadium will not only host sport events, but it will play a significant role being centre to social, political and economical activities of the nation.

According to the Commissioner, apart from creating job opportunities, the stadium will also introduce new technologies and infrastructures to the area.

Urban Development, Housing and Construction State Minister Hailemeskel Tefera said the Ministry has finalized necessary preparations to introduce alternative better design for the construction of the stadium, which he explained as one of the mega projects in the country.

Hailemeskel said the construction of the stadium is expected to employ various technologies from in and outside the country. He, therefore, said the stadium will be built meeting the Olympics and FIFAs standards.

Hailemeskel also noted that the international standard stadium will accommodate 60,000 seats and its total cost of construction is estimated to be two billion Birr. He said the construction of the stadium will start almost after six months and will be completed in two years time.

General Manager of MH Engineering Dr. Eng. Mesele Haile said his team will employ its experience and the newly introduced technologies in the construction.

Working with international organizations such as from South Korea and England, Mesele said that the construction will introduce electronic ticketing and other new technologies.

He as well told the attendants that his company has extensive experience from the Bahir-Dar, Assosa, and Nekemte stadiums construction so far.
