Fasil Kenema opened up an 11-point lead at the top of the Betking Ethiopia Premier League on Thursday night with star striker Mujib Kassim scoring a brace as Fasil beat Wolaitta Dicha 2-0 to move to 41 points.

Mujib has now scored 17 goals this season, an amazing performance for the in-form striker who just knows what to do in front of goal. His almost telepathic combination with Shemeket Gugsa has produced a lot of the goals in the past and today was no different.

The first goal came from a right-wing cross as Mujib sent a looping downward header past the goalkeeper who just couldn’t move in time.

The second goal in the 76th minute saw Gugsa sending the ball sailing over the top and into the path of Mujib, who steered the ball away from the keeper and into the net. He wheeled away in delight, taking off his shirt and earning a yellow card in the process, but he won’t care one bit as his team look odds-on favourites for the title.

Wolaitta Dicha almost scored first with their first attack in the fourth minute as Mengistu’s through ball found Binyam Fikre but Samake, in goal for Fasil, bravely thwarted him. Fikru came close later in the 83rd minute.

Fasil’s other chance fell to Amsalu Tilahun, but he failed to convert.

Fasil will take a lot of stopping on this form with the chasing pack of Ethiopia Coffee, St George and Bahir Dar not looking convincing.
