CAF inspection team to visit Ethiopia

At a meeting in Casablanca Wednesday, the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decided to send an inspection team to Ethiopia, to play host for the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN), the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) disclosed.

According EFF president Juniden Basha, CAF officials would like to visit here to check on the timely progress of preparatory work.

In other news, it was learnt that, effective 2018, indemnities of referees designated for CAF matches would be paid directly by CAF. The decision is a materialization of a campaign promise by CAF president. Until now, regulations required host associations to pay indemnities.

The decision reduces financial burden on national associations and also eliminates an ethical challenge because it removes potential suspicion between national associations and referees.
Meanwhile, on the validation of candidates for the four vacancies on the CAF Executive Committee, only one application (that of Bachir Ould Zmirli of Algeria) was disqualified by the Executive Committee for failure to meet the statutory deadlines.

The Executive Committee also approved the calendar of the inter-club competitions for the year 2018 and modification of the regulations of these competitions, with an additional draw before the quarter-finals stage.
