Hawassa Ketema Retain Ethiopian U-17 Premier League Title

Addis Ababa – In epic final played at Addis Ababa Stadium on Sunday, Hawassa Ketema edged past Kidus Giorgis on penalty shootout after the normal time ended 1-1. Kidus Giorgis were seconds away from clinching the title before a late Hawassa Ketema equalizer changed everything.

Bisrat Teshome put Kidus Giorgis ahead with a cool finish 12 minutes after the onset. The interval saw a dominant Giorgis side, a heavily contested display from both sides and long ball passes. Hawassa should have been on level terms 4 minutes before the interval as Giorgis goalie Mikael Nigusse saves from a Habtamu Mekonen’s spot kick.

Hawassa piled on the pressure after the recess but they were not good in creating good scoring opportunity for the majority of the game. Tsegaye Yohannis headed home Hawassa’s equalizer in the dying moments of the game. Hawassa later on wrapped up their second successive title with a 4-2 penalty shootout over Kidus Giorgis.

Earlier, Ethiopia Nigd Bank beat Adama Ketema 4-2 on penalties after game elapsed one all draw to finish the season third.
