Oslo, Norway - Yenew Alamirew of Ethiopia got his revenge on Kenya’s Caleb Ndiku, who beat him to the top spot in Eugene, to win the 5,000m race here at the ExxonMobil Bislett Games.

Alamirew’s winning time of 13:01.57 is one of the four world leads set here today. His fellow compatriots, Dejen Gemeskel (13:09.73) and Imane Merga (13:29.43) finished 7th and 14th respectively.

The 24-year-old grabbed his second IAAF Diamond League victory following first place in Shanghai, whilst 21-year-old Ndiku – the world indoor 3,000m champion – registered 13:02.15 in his wake.

Meanwhile, Olympic 10,000m silver medallist, Galen Rupp of the USA recorded a 13:03.35 season’s best in third.

Alamirew revealed: “I won the Diamond League last year and I want to do the same this year. I think later in the season, I can be faster.”
