Melbourne, Australia – COFFEE is more than just a drink to Ethiopians – it’s a way of life.

On a typical day, Ethiopians can participate in several coffee ceremonies, with each one taking up to an hour to perform as the coffee beans are roasted, ground and brewed.

The coffee ceremonies are major social events, offering friends, family and members the time to discuss politics, marital conflicts and other issues.

They can also be performed to honour a guest.

Star was treated to a traditional coffee ceremony at Footscray’s Konjo Ethiopian Restaurant last week to officially launch the Feasting in Footscray program, a series of events for the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. Read more
