New Picture Book Portrays “The Amazing Rescue” of a Young Child

The Amazing RescueAuthor Solomon G. Kitaw depicts a girl’s miraculous salvation from a kidnapping gang.

(PRWEB) January 12, 2013 - In June 2005, a gang of kidnappers went into the homely Ethiopian town of Bita Genet and kidnapped an innocent girl, with the malicious purpose of forcing her to marry one of them. An unpredictable twist involving nature itself thwarted their plan, resulting in child’s rescue and the apprehending of the perpetrators by the authorities several days later. The Amazing Rescue is a vibrantly illustrated take on the extraordinary events, drawn and written by author Solomon G. Kitaw.

Kitaw’s work begins by showing everyday life in Bita Genet, and the mundane activities of its denizens, in particular the school children there, amidst an expansive backdrop of sweeping fields of green grass and distant mountain ranges. The idyllic tranquility of this rural community is shattered when an armed gang of outsiders intrudes upon the town. The hooligans enter the school, and take a girl named Duti by force, to the horror of the hapless townsfolk.

The kidnappers take flight, making their way through the wilderness with their captive in tow, crossing rivers and climbing mountains, while the townsfolk contact the authorities, and policemen are dispatched to pursue the gang. Meanwhile, Duti desperately prays to God for protection, believing that He is watching over her. The authorities are lagging behind the gang, and there is slim hope of them catching up with the criminals, but before the kidnappers can fulfill their scheme, readers will see how Duti’s prayers are answered when unexpected rescuers come to her aid, resulting in an unbelievable incident that will make headlines all over the world.

The title says it all, The Amazing Rescue, with its vivid illustrations and its researched account of the events in Bita Genet, tells a captivating and thrilling account of Duti’s incredible deliverance from the hands of her captors. Her story, and that of her unlikely rescuers, will surely fascinate readers of all ages.
