2012 Coca-Cola Road Race Series to conclude on Sunday

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia -  The 2nd edition of the 2012 Coca-Cola Road Race Series promoted by East African Bottling Share Company (EABSC) reaches its climax when the Series Final takes place this coming Sunday, on 14th October 2012. Over 190,000 birr in cash prizes is on offer for elite athletes while plenty of raffle prizes can also be won by fun runners.

The races which have been run under Coca-Cola’s global campaign slogan “Active Healthy Leaving” have revolutionized the timing system for race competitions in Ethiopia by offering individual chip timing to all participants. Participants can check both their finishing time and position within a few hours of finishing the race by going onto the Great Ethiopian Run website (www.ethiopianrun.org). Alternatively, participants can send a sms text to 8018 with their participant race number to receive their result.

With one race remaining, Berhanu Legesse is leading the series with 20 points with Abera Chane 2nd with 10 points. Legesse was the runner-up in the 2011 series. In the elite women’s category Tsegereda Girma is leading, also with 20 points, ahead of Alem Fekere and Ruth Aga, both with 7 points. Regardless of Sunday’s race outcome, Girma will be overall champion, while Legesse needs at least a top 5 finish to scoop a share of the overall jackpot of 100,000birr with Girma.

Finishers’ medal will be distributed to those participants who have completed all three races in the series. They should bring the two wrist bands from the earlier two races in order to claim their medal on Sunday. There are also substantial ‘spot’ prizes for fun runners who have taken part in all three races including a TV, mini laptop, bicycle and mobile apparatus.
