South secures nearly 67 million Birr from tourism

Dilla, Ethiopia –- Nearly 67 million Birr income was secured from tourists, who visited tourist attractions in South Ethiopia Peoples’ State during the last seven months, the regional culture and tourism bureau said.

Government Communication Work Process Coordinator with the bureau, Negatua Mathewos told ENA that more than 75,000 tourists visited the sites.

The amount exceeded by close to 23 million Birr that of same time in the previous year.

Activities carried out to promote the sites contributed share to the growth in the income, she said.

Mago and Netchsar National Parks, the Tiya site, Lower Valley of the Omo and the Konso Cultural Landscape, among others, are some of the sites in the state.

Nine of Ethiopia’s heritages are inscribed by UNESCO as the world heritage.
