The aircraft en route from Addis Ababa to Nairobi crashed yesterday around Bishoftu, six minutes after take-off, killing all 149 passengers and 8 crew members on board.
US Ambassador to Ethiopia, Michael Raynor, visited the accident site this afternoon.
The ambassador on the occasion told FBC that the US is sending a six-member team of experts drawn from US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The experts are expected to arrive at the accident site tomorrow to provide assistance to the investigation process, he said.
Ambassador Raynor further said Boeing technical team, in partnership with the Government of Ethiopia and the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), will provide technical support.
According to him, Interpol in particular provides assistance in the identification of victims’ bodies.
The black box data, which has been recovered today, will have a significant contribution to know the cause of the crash, the ambassador noted.
Eight US citizens were among the victims of the crash.
