Chinese textile firm to set up shop in Dire Dawa

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – A Chinese company, Wuxi Textiles is set to build a textile factory in Dire Dawa City with an investment of USD 220 million, The Reporter has learnt.

The first phase of project is estimated to cost around USD 80 million, according to the company.

Tadesse Haile, Economic Plan, Monitoring and Support Sector Deputy Head with the Office of the Prime Minister, and Fitsum Arega, Investment Commission Commissioner, laid down the cornerstone of the factory today in Dire Dawa where city administration executives and other government officials were in attendance.

The factory is going to rest on a 40 hectare of land adjacent to the Dire Dawa Industrial Park. Apart from Dire Dawa, Wuxi has an ongoing project in Adama town in addition to plans to venture into cotton production sector in Ethiopia.
