Ethiopia names 43 athletes for Rio 2016 Olympic Games

Addis Ababa – Ethiopian Athletics Federation has named a team of 43 athletes, including reserves, who will represent the country at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

800m

Women: Habtam Alemu, Gudaf Tsegaye and Tigist Asefa

Men: Mohammed Aman.

1500m

Men: Aman Wote, Mekonnen Gebremedhin and Dawit Wolde

Women: Genezebe Dibaba, Dawit Seyoum and Bessu Sado. Reserve: Gudaf Tsegaye

3,000m steeplechase

Men: Tafesse Seboka, Chala Beyou and Hailemariam Amare. Reserve: Berhanu Getahun

Women: Sofia Assefa, Hiwot Ayalew and Etenesh Diro. Reserve: Woineshet Ansa

5,000m

Men: Muktar Idris, Dejene Gebremeskel and Hagos Gebrehiwot. Reserve: Abadi Haddis

Women: Almaz Ayana, Senbere Teferi, Ababl Yeshaneh. Reserve: Tirunesh Dibaba

 

10,000m

Men: Yigrem Demelash, Tamirat Tola and Abadi Haddis. Reserve: Ibrahim Jeilan

Women: Almaz Ayana, Gelete Burka and Tirunesh Dibaba. Reserve: Netsanet Gudeta

Marathon

Men: Lemi Berhanu, Tesfaye Abera and Feyisa Lelisa. Reserve: Lelisa Desisa

Women: Tigist Tufa, Mare Dibaba and Tirfi Tsegaye. Reserve: Aberu Kebede

20 km Walk

Women: Yehuwalaye Beletew and Askale Tikesa.

  3. No single athelet in short distance even though they keep telling the Ethiopian people they have been working on it for 20 years.They steel the money instead of hiring proffsional coaches from abroad.All these long distance athletes made it big by themselves just to get out of poverty.
