Huye, Rwanda – DR Congo defeated Walias of Ethiopia 3-0 in Group B opener of the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) here today.

All of Congo’s three goals came within a span of 11 minutes with Guy Lusadisu (44′) opening the score with a beautiful header just before half-time and Heritier Luvumbu (46′) adding a second just a minute after the start of the second half. Nine minutes later, Elia Meshack (55′) made it three all for the Congolese.

“DR Congo totally dominating Ethiopia in all departments”, wrote sports journalist Collins Okinyo on his Facebook page.

The Walias have yet to score a single goal let alone win a match in the CHAN competition having lost all their three matches two years ago, which resulted in the firing of then coach Sewnet Bishaw.

  1. We have players who are fit competent and talented. The problem is we have a weak coach. He is biased, arrogant and does not give attention to the comments given. He rather prefers to insult players and journalist. The Ethiopian Football Federation is weak too.T he Federation is busy with other issues. The members of the Federation donot even know /see what is going on. They dont even respond to correspondences from the African Football Federation on time.

  3. Always we craying becacse of coaches! No??? Look our players physical fitness there lazy and weak! We was #African Barcelona #two years ago but now even we don’t know how pass a ball, just we are giving ball for DRC which means we have tactical issues in our squad! !! I think next game with Cameron is die or do for Yohannes Sahle. ….

  4. Ethiopia has to work on junior clubs to form a strong National team. It is not easy to form a strong national team. This requires passion and patience. There must be pitches which are used to bring kids to play football. In Ethiopia big stadiums are being constructed. This is a big start. But what about young Ethiopians who want to play football. Towns and cities do not plan a play ground for kids.
The other thing what we need to consider is the Football Federation should tolerate coaches. One cannot form a good team in monthes even in a couple of years. Garziato or Sewnet could not create a good team as the country had no good players ( with all due respect for Ethiopian players currently). Let the federation give time to coaches.
