Fresh from claiming the world marathon title at the IAAF World Championships, Ethiopia’s Mare Dibaba will return to competitive action at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Lisbon Half Marathon on 18 October.

Dibaba hasn’t contested a half marathon this year but the Ethiopian is the fastest in the field with a lifetime best of 67:13 dating back to 2010. She is also the fastest marathon-runner in the line-up with a 2:19:52 PB which she set in Dubai 2012 and matched in Xiamen in January.

An Ethiopian runner has never won in Lisbon before but this should change next month. Along with Dibaba, the field also includes standout road-runners such as Tirfe Tsegaye and Wude Ayalew.

Tsegaye, who won big-city marathons in Tokyo and Berlin last year and was eighth at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, has a PB of 67:42 for the half marathon while Ayalew can also boast a world-class PB of 67:58 for the distance.
