Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Culture and Tourism ministry says it will pursue a number of tourism development strategies with the aim of pushing Ethiopia’s tourism sector forward.

Ethiopia works tooth and nail to perk up its tourism sector, fully exploit its tourism potentialities and raise the contribution of the tourism industry in its national income. Now, the tourism industry contributes only 4 percent of this country’s gross domestic product, a meager value of what the country’s Culture and Tourism Ministry looks forward to.The ministry says it will pursue a number of tourism development strategies with the aim of pushing Ethiopia’s tourism sector forward.

These strategies include rotating the site of national tourism celebrations, such as the World Tourism Day, among regional states to motivate the tourism sector’s development, according to Awoke Tenaw, a director at the Culture and Tourism Ministry.

“This year’s World Tourism Day will be celebrated in Afar State, a world-famous archaeological site, but little trodden by tourists,” Tenaw told Anadolu Agency.
