Ethiopians win men’s, women’s races at Providence half marathon, city couple place second

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — Runners from Ethiopia have won the men’s and women’s races at the Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon in Providence, while a city couple claimed both second-place spots.

Thousands of people hit the streets Sunday for the 13.1-mile half marathon.

Fikadu Lemma won the men’s race with a time of one hour and nine minutes. Tigist Tufa finished first in the women’s race with a time of 1:10:51.

Patrick and Katie Moulton of Providence were the second-place winners with times of 1:11:04 and 1:19:42, respectively.

The course began at the Statehouse, ran up historic Benefit Street on the city’s East Side and headed north to Lippitt Park.

Runners then went down Blackstone Boulevard, along the Seekonk River and India Point Park before returning downtown to the finish line at the Statehouse.
