Gondar Zone secures over 24 million Birr from tourism

Gondar, Ethiopia (ENA) – Over 24 million Birr revenue is secured from nearly 22,000 tourists, who visited tourist attraction sites in North Gonder Zone of Amhara State during the last nine months, the zonal culture and tourism department said.

Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer with the Department, Getachew Tsega told ENA on Wednesday that more than 15,280 of the tourists are foreigners.

Getachew said the department has carried out various activities to promote new tourist sites and conduct studies with a view to increasing the revenue.

The Zone is home to Fasiledes Castles and also the Semien Mountains National Park, which are inscribed by UNESCO as World Heritages.

Nine of Ethiopia’s heritages are inscribed by UNESCO as World Heritages.
