The Vancouver Whitecaps have added depth to their roster, announcing the signing of midfielder Aminu Abdallah on Thursday.

The 19-year-old Ghanaian comes to the team following a successful trial that included a goal and an assist in six matches with the Whitecaps’ reserves.

Prior to joining Vancouver, Abdallah was a member of Ghana’s International Allies FC, where he was a teammate of current Whitecaps midfielder Gershon Koffie from 2008-10. Before arriving in Vancouver, Abdallah trained with notable European teams Juventus, CSKA Moscow and PSV Eindhoven.

“Aminu is a big, young, powerful player with huge potential,” Vancouver head coach Martin Rennie said in a statement. “He is a left-footed box-to-box player who can bring a lot to the team with his ability to win balls in the air and connect passes.”

Added Adballah: “I am very excited to join Whitecaps FC. I am going to work hard and try my best to make the club and fans proud.”
