Ethiopia to Host 15th Codatu Conference

Addis Ababa — Ethiopia will host the 15th Cooperation for Urban Mobility in the Developing World (CODATU) Conference in Addis October 22-26, 2012 with the theme “Urban Mobility for (Re) shaping Cities,” the organizing committee announced.

Committee Chairperson Bedilu Assefa told journalists yesterday that the conference would enable to exchange policy ideas and research outcomes related to coordinated transport management.

He said the conference will also help share best practices of countries, promote the untapped investmentpotential and trade opportunities in Ethiopia and enhance national development drive.

According to him, the conference would contribute its share to forge cooperation and assistance for the expansion of public transport and promote image-building effort. He further indicated that it will also provide concrete evidence for the implementation of simple and adaptable solutions to developing countries.

The form of governance required for promoting sustainable mobility, planning the future of cities, the link between transport and town planning, sustaining transport infrastructure in cities, among others, are sub-themes to be discussed in the course of the conference.

He said over 30 researches will be presented in the biennial conference which is expected to attract over 700 participants worldwide.

CODATU was born out of the world conference on urban transport, in Dakar, Senegal,in 1980. It is an association with international vocation whose objective is to promote the actions of animation and scientific exchanges, technical, economic and social concerning the systems of urban displacements, among others.
