British Embassy in Addis Ababa to hold 100m race

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – On July 27 2012 the eyes of the world will be on the UK, as the Olympic Games begin in London. Around the world one hundred British Embassies and High Commissions are celebrating 100 days to go until the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The British Embassy in Addis Ababa will also hold a pre Olympic event on the 24th April 2012 outside the embassy to celebrate the milestone of 100 days until the official opening of the Olympic in London.  This event will entail 100 runners, some of which will be Ethiopian Olympians, doing 100 meters on the road outside the Embassy and the British Council.

On this occasion Ethiopian talented athletes and The British Embassy staffs are expected to participate in celebration of the remaining 100 days of the official opening of the London Olympic Games. This occasion will be held on Thursday April 24 at 5:00 pm in front of the embassy.  On this race the participants are females, The Reporter learnt.

According to the British Embassy in Addis Ababa after the Olympic stadium is the lightest ever built, containing just 10,000 tons of steel.

The Orbit tower, built by ArcelorMittal, is the UK’s tallest sculpture.  Made from 2,000 tons of steel, it is a striking blend of art and cutting edge engineering and has created a new landmark for East London.

This major infrastructure project was built on time and on budget, with the Olympic Park venues ready a full year before the Games to allow for thorough testing.  Designed to transform into a new generation of sports facilities, these venues will serve communities and athletes for years to come.
