Sheraton Addis to observe Earth Hour 2012

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Like its sister hotels and resorts under the Starwood brand, Sheraton Addis will turn off its lights for an hour on March 31, 2012, in observance of Earth Hour, reported the English weekly Addis Tribune..

Spending an hour in the dark is a global environmental awareness practice created by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

During the event dubbed Earth Hour, 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries worldwide will switch off their lights. Iconic buildings and major landmarks all over the world, such as the Eiffel Tower and Statue of Liberty, will go dark in support of Earth Hour.

“In 2011, the Sheraton Addis marked Earth Hour, and it was greatly appreciated by our guests as well as our associates,” General Manager of the Hotel Jean-Pierre Manigoff was quoted as saying in a press statement.

This year, Sheraton Addis plans to turn off exterior signage lighting, dim or turn off nonessential interior lighting, and use candlelight in appropriate public areas such as restaurants and bars during Earth Hour.

The hotel will also use in-room voicemail messages and in-room television messages to inform guests about the Earth Hour observance.
