Addis Ababa to celebrate its 125th Anniversary

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia  (ENA) – Deputy Mayor of the Addis Ababa City, Abate Sitotaw said preparations are finalized to celebrate 125th founding anniversary of the City.

Abate said the anniversary will be celebrated with various assortments throughout the year.

He said the celebration will create opportunity to promote the city, preserve its manmade and natural heritages, among others.

Celebration of the anniversary will begin next Saturday in the premises of the city municipality.

Higher level government officials and diplomats based in the city as well as representatives of the public will take part in the event.

A new website will be launched, he said, adding, documentary films depicting infrastructure development, socio-economic and current situation in the city will be presented in connection with the event.

Discussions and workshops will also be organized while representatives of close to 30 twin towns and sister cities will attend the celebration.

The City was established during the reign of Emperor Menelik II in 1879EC.

Addis Ababa is an important administrative centre not only for Ethiopia but also for the whole of Africa.
