Ethiopian National Team

Djibouti – The Ethiopian national soccer team aka “The Walias” drew scoreless with Somalia in the first leg preliminary match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup at El Hadj Hassan Gouled Stadium in Djibouti tomorrow.

The two teams will meet in the return leg match in Addis Ababa on Wednesday, November 16.

Disappointed Ethiopian soccer fans are hoping that the team will take its home field advantage in the return leg to beat Somalia and be able to advance to the group stage.

It is not known whether Coach Sewenet Bishaw will be able to get the services of some of his key players  like Adane Girma (St. George) , Salahdin Said (Wadi Degla, Egypt), Alula Girma (St. George), Shimelis Bekele (St. George) and Asrat Megerssa (EEPCO), who are currently on injury list.

Today’s match was originally scheduled to be played at Nairobi’s Nyayo National stadium on November 11 after Kenya accepted the request by the Somalia Football Federation (SFF) to stage the game in the country due to the insecurity in Mogadishu.
