Ethiopian Premier League: Sidama wins battle of the Coffee Derby

Addis Ababa – Sidama Coffee pulled the biggest upset of the Ethiopian Premier League with a 2-1 shocker victory over top team Ethiopian Coffee FC here today, reported Ermias Amare on his FaceBook page.

The visitors took the lead 27 minutes into the first half through Meskele Mengistu, who scored his 7th goal of the season.

Nine minutes later, Sidama extended its lead when Ethiopian Coffee conceded a second goal as a result of an own goal by Edilu Dereje.

The two teams went to their dressing rooms at half-time with Sidama leading 2-0.

Penalty Miss

Just 14 minutes into the second half, Ethiopian Coffee were awarded a penalty kick, but unfortunately, Sisay Demissie who is usually very reliable from the spot kick, missed a golden opportunity.

Ethiopian Coffee had to wait until the 83rd minute to score its lone goal following another penalty kick, which this time Mulu Alem Tilahun, converted.
