World Yoga Day Class to Benefit Safe Drinking Water Effort in Ethiopia

San Francisco, CA – On Sunday, January 30, 2011 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm local time teachers worldwide will offer benefit classes to support UNICEF and their idea that safe drinking water is a human right.

This means that for a twenty-four hour period, yoga classes will be taking place with the intention of making safe drinking water available to one and all. The focus for 2011 is on Ethiopia.

Janet MacLeod, a Bay Area Yoga teacher for over 30 years, will offer a class in honor of World Yoga Day at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco. The class is open to all levels.

Participants are encouraged to donate whatever they feel is appropriate; those who cannot afford to donate money can bring their positive energy.

“When I first became aware of the opportunity to help with this effort, I was motivated to join immediately,” said McLeod. “One of the basic tenets of the yoga system is compassion. How can we not be moved by the fact that something we take for granted is not available to a large percentage of the world’s population? Let’s do our part to end this travesty!”
