Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – The Cinderella journey of the Ethiopian national football team in the CECAFA Challenge Cup has come to an end after it lost 1-0 to the Ivory Coast in the semi-final match played here today.

The half-time score was 0-0. The Ivory Coast team created more scoring chances, even hitting the cross bar once.

The Walias, as the Ethiopian team is known as, have exceeded fans’ expectations by reaching the semi-final stage.  Few people expected them to make it past their group. In that regard, the loss seems less painful, at least for those of us watching.

Ethiopia will play the loser of Tanzania vs Uganda for 3rd place finish and $10,000 prize money on Sunday.
