2 million Birr bonus for Ethiopian National Soccer Team

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Ethiopian national soccer team will receive a 2 million Birr (US $121,212) bonus if it qualifies for the 2012 Africa Nations Cup, said the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) during a reception held here in honor of the team’s victory in Madagascar. 

Each national team player is said to receive 100,000 Birr (US$ 6,060). 

In a communiqué sent by its Marketing & Communication Department, the EFF said that an anonymus sponsor has promised to make the offer. 

Meanwhile, the EFF gave 7,000 Birr ($425) bonus to every member of the national side for their 1-0 victory over Madagascar a week ago. Coach Iffy Onuora received 4,000 Birr ($242); his assistant & goalkeeper coach got 3,000 Birr (182) each; team leader Dr. Elias Abushakra, the team’s doctor and masseur also received 2,500 Birr ($152) each. Furthermore, four players who were in training with the team but didn’t travel to Madagascar also received 2,500 Birr (152) each.
