Ethiopia to cooperate with UNESCO to conserve natural & cultural heritage

Addis AbabaEthiopia vowed to cooperate with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to conserve its natural and cultural heritages.

An Ethiopian delegation led by Dr Tilaye Gete, Minister of Education, is in attendance of the 39th session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris, France.

Ethiopia expressed its readiness to conserve its heritages at the event which was started on October 30 under the theme “SDGs and UNESCO’s Role in the Multilateral System.”

It also showcased its experiences in poverty reduction and expansion of education at the event which will last until November 14, 2017.

Dr Tilaye said that the event will create opportunities for world countries to join efforts to achievement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He said UNESCO can contribute its share in the fight against climate change as well as urged member states of the Organization to provide support for the establishment of Africa Bio Fund.

The Minister also thanked the Organization for removing Ethiopia’s Simien Mountain National Park from the List of World Heritage in danger and inscribing the Gada system on its Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity List.

According to Office of Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Dr Tilaye further called on member states to back Ethiopia’s bid to become member of the Executive Board of the Organization.
