Addis Ababa – Saint George FC has announced today that the no.8 jersey worn by the late Mengistu Worku, who played for the team for 16 years, has been retired as part of the club’s effort to honor the football legend, who died on Thursday at the age of 70, wrote Ermias Amare on his FaceBook Page.

Ermias said that the club’s no.8 jersey, which has been worn by current player Mentesenot Adane and former Saint players Anteneh Alamerew and Muluken W.Yohannes, will forever belong to Ashagrachew, Mengistu Worku’s original name.

Meanwhile, there are reports that a youth soccer academy currently being built in Bishoftu (Debre Zeit) has been named after Mengistu Worku.
