Ethiosports is an Oregon (USA) based Sports Media & Promotion Service connecting the US and Africa in Sports & Tourism.
Ethiosports has been Ethiopia’s premier sports news magazine since 1999. But after more than a decade of valuable service, we felt that our readers will benefit greatly if we added other sports news categories and also expanded our geographical coverage to the United States, where the majority of our readers reside. So,
- We expanded our reach beyond the borders of Ethiopia to promote the rest of Africa.
- We added the NBA, NFL, MLS and NCAA. Adventure, Travel & Tourism
What we do
- Connect the United States, Ethiopia & Africa in Adventure, Sports, Travel & Tourism.
- Provide a platform for travel & tourism-related companies to post their News & Press Releases, Deals & Packages and advertise their products & services to the 1.6 million Africans living in the US.
- Serve as an information center for travelers who want to share their Sports & Travel experience in the US, Ethiopia and elsewhere.
- Bring together entrepreneurs and investors to discuss tourism-related investment opportunities in the country.
Athletes of African Descents in US Sports:
Athletes of African descents include recent immigrants and those born and/or raised in the United States. Former Houston Rockets’ star Dikembe Mutombo (DR Congo); New York City Marathon winner Meb Keflezighi (Eritrean-American); Steve Nash (South Africa/Canada) of the Los Angeles Lakers; Nicholas Batum (French/Cameroon) of the Portland Blazers, Luo Deng (Sudan/UK) and Joakim Noah of the Chicago Bulls, whose family heritage includes Cameroon, Sweden and France, are a few examples.
There are thousands of athletes of African descents competing in NCAA Tournaments, NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLS, and hundreds more come here to the US every year to compete in track and field and other sports.
Africa is blessed with natural beauty and great landscapes, which are suitable for a range of outdoor activities, including walking, fishing, bird watching, mountain and rock climbing, white-water rafting, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, trekking, caving and paragliding. However the link between tourism and sport activities in the continent has not adequately been promoted.
Africans in the US:
Population = 1.6 million (immigrationpolicy.org)
Annual Purchasing Power = $50 billion (www.ethnictrends.info)
The number of Africans living and working in the United States is estimated to be around 1.6 million, and they have $50 billion annually in purchasing power. They enjoy great adventure and attend numerous sports activities and often travel both within the US and to Africa. EthioSports will serve as a great platform for sports events organizers & travel-related companies to explore this niche & untapped market.
