Great Awassa Run- 15 April 2007     03-14-2007 The 3rd race in the 2007 Great Ethiopian Run AIDS Series will be staged in Awassa on Sunday 15th April 2007. Awassa, situated 275 km south of Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, is the regional centre of Ethiopia's SNNPR (Southern Nations & Nationality Peoples' Region) state.   Local Heroes, a charity based in the Netherlands and one of the major sponsors of the 2007 Great Ethiopian Run AIDS Series, plans to send to Awassa representatives from the Dutch town of Hof van Twente with the intention of building a 'city twinning' partnership between the two towns.   As one of the emerging centres of trade, tourism and investment in Ethiopia, Awassa is an ideal venue for the race with an abundance of newly-asphalted wide roads that run through the centre of town which were used at the time of the 2007 Ethiopian Marathon Relay in mid-January 2007.   Source: Ethiopiarun.org
