President Sahle-Work Receives Vice-President Of Union Of International Cycling

Addis Ababa, March 21, 2019 (FBC) –President Sahle-Work Zewde today received Wagu Azam Mohammed, Vice -President of Union of International Cycling (UIC) and President of Confederation of African Cycling at the Presidential Palace today.

During the meeting, Azam briefed her about the 14th edition of the African Road Cycling Championships, which was held from 15-19 March, 2019 in the city of Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.

He also informed the President on the status of cycling in Africa.

Mr. Azam underscored the amazing leap of cycling in Ethiopia where there was no as such anything mentioned on this specific sport in recent years.

“Ten years ago, Ethiopia was not on the map of Africa’s cycling. But this time it has become one of the best performers and got many medals in the championship.”

He also asked the support of Ethiopia to use cycling as one of the best tools to create closer ties among Africans, according to Office of the President.

President Sahle-Work Zewde congratulated the delegation for effective championship and reiterate Ethiopia’s commitment to render its support for such type of sports as these are the main instruments to show the good image of Africa to the rest of the world.

Ethiopia finished second on the African Cycling in the Championship.
