Great Ethiopian Run, Children’s’ race to take place next month

The 2018 Plan International Children’s race and ‘RUNNING FOR A CAUSE’ official charity campaign for the 2018 TOTAL Great Ethiopian Run was launched on Thursday October 4, 2018, in Hilton hotel. Over 3500 children aged U-11 in both sexes will be expected to take part in the race on Saturday, November 17, 2018.

Plan International Ethiopia which has been the message sponsor for several years is also the race sponsor for both the 2018 TOTAL Great Ethiopian Run and the 2018 Plan International Children’s Race.

This time around, the race message is “Empower Girls NOW; they are the next LEADERS!” The race mainly works towards bringing children to develop the habit of running from their early stage so that they become fit and more productive in their future. It also insures that the Great Ethiopian Run organizes races that fulfill the need across all age groups.

In the occasion, the Country Director of Plan International Ethiopia, Geraldine Breukers said that, “Plan International Ethiopia feels the urgency of empowering girls, who are the next leaders, as a result, puts them at the heart of both our day-to-day activities and long-term strategic plans.”

The Director also added that “Globally, we want to directly reach 100 million girls in our five year strategic plan, which will end in 2022,” She added.

In a related note, the Great Ethiopian Run stakeholders are expected to be present. Among the program, a panel discussion having the Addis Ababa Women and Children affairs Deputy, Meron Aragaw, the newly assigned CEO of the Ethiopian Tourism Organization (ETO) Lensa Mekonnen, the well-known Artist Amleset Muche and others discussed within their area of expertise in relation to the race.

The 2018 TOTAL Great Ethiopian Run has improved customers request. The Great Ethiopian Run will be starting memberships as a new package. The organizers revealed that around 44,000 participants are anticipated for the 18th edition of the Great Ethiopian Run.  

The organizers further stated that GER has taken steps to bring more awareness on Safety and will provide various information and technical support as to how participants will make sure that their health status is on the right track before getting into the race. GER is also working on new mechanisms to keep the race clean in collaboration with the participants and other stakeholders. The registration for the children’s races will start on Monday, October 8, 2018 at the Great Ethiopian run office and Hilton Addis.
