Ozzie, Ghana tourism ink deal for signature show in Accra
Ozzie Business and Hospitality Group and Ghana Tourism Authority signed an agreement to stage the 1st Hotel & Restaurant Show in Accra, Ghana in 2018 earlier this week. Named the Hotel Show Africa Hospitality Investment Trade Show, it is seen as a strategic move to bring in investors and reputable partners from abroad to invest in the West African nation and learn from the experiences of Ethiopia that has been successful in recent years with the flux of brand name hotels that have opened shop in the country.
This is to be the first time Ozzie has ventured outside of Ethiopia after the company’s success in Ethiopia and being part in the luring of brand name hotels, including Radisson Blu, Movenpick Hotels and Resorts, Bon Hotel Addis Ababa, Golden Tulip including its second hotel in Adama, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, Park Inn by Radisson and Dusit Thani.
“We are an Ethiopian firm and we are aiming to be the hub for the hospitality business advancement on the continent,” Kumneger Teketel, founder and managing director of Ozzie, said. “That is the direction we are aiming for and striving, as an entity that is aiming to change the hospitality industry of the continent.”
Ozzie is known to produce a yearly trade show in the capital that has yielded much of the success of the local tourism and hotel investment in the nation, notably the MICE (Meeting, Incentives, Conference and Exhibitions) East Africa Forum and Expo. It has been used as a platform for partnership while being a hub for international players to be exposed to the local hotel industry.
The company has been operational for five years, it is said to host the biggest hospitality industry event in the continent. It held its 5th Hotel Show last year and had almost 200 exhibitors and representatives of over 250 brand name hotels around the world.
“The success in attracting all these industry players’ sends a clear signal that suggests launching such a constant platform is an essential element to integrate Ethiopia in the international arenas,” Kumneger said.
