Addis Ababa (ENA) -Preparations have been finalized to successfully host the 39th ordinary general assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Ethiopian Football Federation said.

The event is “historic and unique” for Ethiopia that is going to host the CAF General Assembly after 51 years, Juneidin Basha President of the Federation told ENA.

Holding the meeting in Ethiopia, the founding member of CAF, is appropriate, as it coincides with the 60th founding anniversary of CAF, he said.

Five-hundred participants including CAF member countries and well known football players are expected at the event.

According to Juneidin, the event will allow Ethiopia to attract more attention from CAF members in its bid to host the 2025 African Cup of Nations.

The session will take place at the African Union Headquarters on the 16th of March.

The CAF presidential elections will take place on the day.

Issa Hayatou, who has been on the helm of CAF since 1988, is seeking an eighth term.

CAF last year brought a new rule that limits the presidency to just three four-year terms in office from this year’s election.

As the ruling only applies since it was passed in September, Hayatou, CAF’s longest serving ruler who has led the organization for 29 years, will compete for the presidency.
