5-Star Rating for Golden Tulip & Marriott Executive Apartment Hotels

Golden Tulip Addis Ababa and Marriott Executive Apartment Hotels were recently awarded 5 star ratings by the Ministry of Culture & Tourism (MoCT).There are now seven, five star hotels in Addis Ababa including; Sheraton Addis, Elilly International Hotel, Capital Hotel & Spa and Radisson Blu.

Genet Belay, Director of Operations of Golden Tulip Addis Ababa of told Capital “We know that our hotel standard fit five star and we are finally getting what we deserve.’’

Golden Tulip Hotel which opened in 2014 around Bole Medhaenalem is administered by Louvre Hotels Group and has 90 rooms creating job opportunities for over 130 people.

While the USD 55.5 million investment of Marriott Executive was crowned a five star hotel grading after a one time evaluation.

“After seeing everything the evaluators gave us the top rating, we strongly believe that these ratings help hotels to know their strengths and weaknesses and enables them to upgrade,’’ said  Heran Shitaw communications officer of  Marriott Hotel.

Marriott Executive Apartments Hotel

The Marriott Executive Apartments are international, upscale, service apartment properties intended primarily for expatriate executives whose business purposes require them to stay more than 30 nights in Addis Abeba.

The hotel which is owned by Sunshine Investment Group gave the management contract to Marriott International which is an American multinational diversified hospitality company that manages and franchises a broad portfolio of hotels and related lodging facilities.

The exterior view, bedroom, bathroom, public area, bar and dining facilities, kitchen, housekeeping & maintenance, general services, additional facilities like swimming pool, gym, and spa, sustainability (research and development), safety & security, staff facility and training including staff recreation area were evaluated by MoCT before deciding on a five star rating. 

In  August 2015 four stars were awarded to Intercontinental-Addis, Harmony, Dreamliner, Jupiter (kazanchis), Saro-Maria, Debredamo, Nazra, Friendship, Nexus, Washington, Sarem International, Jupiter (Bole) and Tegen Guest Accommodation hotels.

Three stars were also awarded to 25 hotels and 19 hotels received two star ratings. Seven hotels received a one star rating. Twenty seven hotels were unfit to receive the star ratings.
