Gondar – Newly promoted side Fasil Kenema scored their second major victory in a row over an established Ethiopian Premier League side after they defeated defending champions and current leader Kedus Giorgis (St. George) 2-1 at Fasiledes Stadium here today.
Fasil Kenema shocked Ethiopian Bunna (Ethiopian Coffee) 1-0 in Addis Ababa last week.
The league leaders opened the score just twelve minutes into the game when top striker Salhadin Said took advantage of the confusion between Fasil’s goalie Yohannes Shakur and the defense to score.
It wasn’t until close to half-time that the local side got the equalizer thanks to a goal by Abdurahman Mubarak (44′).
Fasil Kenema got the winner just two minutes before the end of regulation time when Edom Hosorovy, who was brought down in the penalty box, scored.
Elsewhere, Mekelakeya deafeated Woldia Kenema 2-0; Arba Minch rebounded with a 3-0 victory over Jimma Abba Bunna; Dire Dawa Kenema and Sidama Bunna beat their opponents Addis Ababa Kenema and Wolayta Dicha 1-0 respectively and the much anticipated match between Adama Kenema and Ethiopian Bunna ended in a 1-1 draw; so did Ethio-Electric vs Ethiopia Nigd Bank.
