Meselech Melkamu wins Amsterdam Marathon

Ethiopia’s Meselech Melkamu secured her second marathon victory of the year, winning the TCS Amsterdam Marathon women’s race in 2:23:21 today.

It was Melkamu’s third podium finish in a marathon this year, following her third-place finish in Dubai and her victory in Hamburg.

Afework finished second in 2:24:27 and Chumba was third in 2:25:00, taking more than six minutes off her PB.

Jeptoo, the 2013 London Marathon winner and the fastest woman in the field – albeit still recovering from serious injuries – was fourth in 2:25:57. Hailu, who set the course record when she won the 2012 Amsterdam Marathon in 2:21:09, was fifth in 2:27:50.

Men’s Race

Surprise winner Daniel Wanjiru of Kenya broke the course record taking almost three minutes off his PB to win in 2:05:19.
