Madrid Marathon: Askale Alemayehu wins women’s title

Askale AlemayehuMadrid – Ethiopia’s Askale Alemayehu won the women’s title at 39th Rock ’n’ Roll Madrid Marathon, an IAAF Silver Label Road Race, here today.

Alemayehu. who was 24th at last month’s IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, won in a personal best of 2:33:08, improving by just over a minute.

Fellow Ethiopian Abebech Tsegay, finished  second in 2:40:33 and Vivian Jerono of Kenya took third place in 2:42:22.

Men’s Race

Kenya’s Peter Kiplagat led a Kenyan team to win the top 3 spots in the men’s event. He came in first in a time of 2:11.44, followed by Patrick Cheruiyot (2:11.50) and Alphonce Kigen (2:12:17).
