Assela – A new sport training center named after Ethiopia‘s top female athlete Tirunesh Dibaba, which was built at a cost of 220 million Birr ($11 million) will be inaugurated here on Sunday, April the 17th.

Although the inauguration ceremony will be held next week, the center will begin work today.

Assela has produced many athletes over the years, including 17 who’ve won medals in international competitions representing Ethiopia.

The center was built on 45.9 hectares of land and has a running track, a soccer field, tennis courts, gymnasium, residence halls for athletes and coaches, a library, clinic and an administrative building.

The center is expected to accommodate close to 600 athletes, who will pursue academic and athletic trainings.
