Pope of Alexandria and the Patriarch of Saint Mark Tawodros II will be visiting Ethiopia September 26 – October 1, 2015.

Briefing journalists at the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt yesterday, Bishop Biemen Wabil Milad Gaballah, Bishop of the Naqada & QUS, said that the Pope’s visit has two objectives – strengthening the century old relations between the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church (EOTC) and Egyptian Coptic Church and reciprocating to EOTC Patriarch Abuna Mathias’s visit.

With regard to the Church’s stand about the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, Bishop Biemen said that the church has significant role in working for the realization of mutual understanding between the two parties. Preaching Bible, our church will show its support in the fight against any wrongdoings attempted to stop any developmental endeavour including the construction of the Dam, he said. “We are religious fathers and we preach peace at all times. The church recognizes Ethiopia’s right to utilize the river Abay for developmental activities.”

During his visit, the Pope is expected to meet with government officials, EOTC leaders, and visit sacred places, among others.
