Bidvest Wits striker, Getaneh Kebede, has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Clever Boys and has been linked with a move to Bloemfontein Celtic.

Wits’ quota of foreign internationals is already at its maximum of five and with the club looking to bolster their squad, it looks like Kebede could be on his way out to make space for new signings.

The 23-year-old joined Wits in July 2013, on the back of an impressive season with Ethiopian side Dedebit in which he helped them win the Ethiopian Premier League.

Kebede was the top scorer in the league that season but since his switch to Wits he has struggled, scoring nine goals in 33 appearances in his two seasons at the club.

A source has revealed that Wits do not feel like Kebede contributed enough to the team and is no longer part of coach Gavin Hunt’s plans for the upcoming season.

It is believed that the Clever Boys are looking to loan out the striker but would be open to a team that would be interested in buying him outright.

With Celtic having missed out on Camaldine Abraw to Kaizer Chiefs, Phunya Sele Sele will still be looking to bolster their striking options and the Ethiopian could find himself in the green and white of Celtic next season.
