Designer of the Week: Amsale
Personal experiences and the inability to find a simple and refined gown to wear on her own wedding day drove bridal designer Amsale Aberra to create understated, minimally adorned, elegant designs for brides like herself.
Ethiopian-born Aberra began her now instantly recognizable label out of her New York loft in the 1980s. Today, theAmsale brand is internationally renowned. Clean, simple silhouettes with slight embellishments and soft silk and chiffon fabrics define Aberra’s collections. That’s not to suggest the brand is uninteresting. Each design in the Amsale line is meant to bring a luxe, yet understated gown to those looking for something less fussy and grand. On her website, Aberra says of her designs, “I want a bride to be thrilled with her wedding-day look for years to come, because her dress has a timeless beauty that reflects her true essence.”
The designer’s recent Spring 2016 collection follows Aberra’s philosophy of simple elegance and she brings a romantic flair with flowing fabrics and hints of gold into her designs.
