yesterday with defeat to Algerian club side MC El Eulma. The preliminary round first leg clash at the Stade Messaoud Zougar ended 1-0 in favour of the home side, but the Ethiopians will be content with the result, as had it not been for some spectacular goalkeeping from St George stopper Robert Odongkara, real daylight could have separated the two sides.

Neider Dos Santos’ team were poor throughout the match as fans complaints that the gaffer has been unable to bring out the best of the team appear to be based on reality as MC El Eulma attacked from the start of the game and didn’t let up until the final whistle. The Ethiopian champions couldn’t muster any real attacking threats and will hope to awaken their scoring threat in time for the second leg.

Robert Odongkara was in goal, with Alula Girma, Salahdin Bargecho, Degu Debebe and Zecharias Tuji completing the back line. Behailu “Tusa” Assefa, Natnael Zeleke, Isaac Isinde and veterans Adane Girma and Tesfaye Alebachew played behind new Ugandan import, striker Brian Umony.
