Legendary Sport Radio Personality Nega Woldeselassie Passes Away at 78

Montreal, Canada – Legendary Ethiopian Radio Sports reporter Nega Woldeselassie passed away here on Thursday, February 5 at the age of 78.

His funeral will be held this Saturday, February 14.

Montreal has been home to Nega for more than 20 years.

Ato Nega was born in Adwa, Tigray Region of Ethiopia from his father Woldeselassie Araya and his mother Kidan Wolde-Samuel.

He attended school in Adwa and later on moved to Addis Ababa to complete his education. It was in the capital city that he later forged his sports radio career with the Ethiopian Radio Station.

He was one of Ethiopia’s pioneer sports journalists, and together with the late Solomon Tessema paved the way to numerous sports reporters and journalists in the country.

He is survived by his son and daughter.
